Tips & Tricks

Tips & Tricks

  • Putting clear nail polish on bug bites stops the itching!
  • If you put scotch tape on a splinter, and rip it off, the splinter comes out easier!
  • Leave mint cream [NOT GEL] toothpaste on zits over night and be acne free in the morning!
  • [For ladies] Put lube on your tampon to make it glide in smoother!
I will be updating this every time I learn a new tip / trick! :)

Organization

Organization

My friend Abby made a blog post similar to this. Check it out! http://abbysapple.blogspot.com/2012/07/organization.html

  1. Invest in a bookshelf. If you have a lot of books, of course. My desk came with a book shelf on the top, which is good, but also bad. I read a lot of books, I recently just cleaned out my tiny bookshelf. I gave probably 30 books to my little cousins. My favorite books/books I want to read are currently on my bookshelf. [Percy Jackson series, Series of Unfortunate Events series, Warrior Cats series, Hunger Games Trilogy, Boy in the Striped Pajamas, etc. (I don't own any HP books, I only have them on my kindle </3)] I keep a lot of my other books in an orange storage box that doubles as a seat. I have about 30 books in that box, and over 20 on my bookshelf. I definitely need a large bookshelf, but honestly, my room is too small for that, and we're low on money.
  2. Get a jewelry box. Or get crafty and make hangers for your jewelry. [See Abby's blog post.] Or, if you mainly just have ear rings, get an ear ring tree, they're super cute and hold a lot of ear rings. Look at Wal-Mart or a thrift store. You don't need fancy ear ring trees, just get a cheap one and move on with your life. If you mainly have rings, I suggest getting a ring box with lots of ring holes.
  3. Buy storage boxes. Or under-the-bed boxes. I suggest having one for nail polish, and probably one for make up, if you wear make up. I suggest also having a large plastic box in your closet to hold extra sheets and/or blankets. You can buy super cheap boxes and then decorate them later to save a few bucks! :)
  4. Get a trash can for your room. Most people have them, but some do not. Definitely get one if you do not already have one. You don't need to buy trash bags for it, just use old K-Mart or Wal-Mart bags.

I think that's all! I'll update if I think of any more! Thanks for reading, and be sure to check out Abby's organization post! Link is above!

Effective Ways to Learn a New Language

Effective Ways to Learn a New Language

First of all, I think getting the app 'Spanish!' by Mind Snacks. [It has Spanish, French, Russian, etc.] It has many games available to help you learn, while still having fun. One level comes with the free version, if you want the other levels, then it costs $5. Which sucks, but is definitely worth it. I will do a review on my Spanish! app ASAP. Probably later today or tomorrow, I think. Another thing you can do is watch Spanish movies and have English subtitles, or the other way around. I haven't tried that yet, but I plan to, soon. You can check out some websites, I really need to do that. I will, and I will share my favorites. This is something different you can do, watch Spanish music lyric videos. Try not to do anything fast paced, unless you're advanced, of course. Start out slow and work your way to the top. There isn't any rush, do everything at your own pace. This is one of my favorite things to do, put note cards with Spanish words on them and tape them to the matching object in your room/house. An example would be a note card with the word 'la cama' taped to/sitting on your bed. It reminds me of that one episode from That's So Raven, where she is trying to learn Spanish before her big test. :)

Changing My Mind

I've decided I want this to be about more than school. I'll be posting anything and everything on here. If you think something I post is boring, please tell me. I'll try to not post as much with that topic. If you really like a topic I post, tell me! I might make more posts about that topic! I need your input and feedback to make this blog awesome! (:

Review on 6DollarShirts.com

Review on 6DollarShirts.com

Just saying, some shirts are inappropriate on there.

I ordered 13 shirts from 6dollarshirts.com four days ago. If you order a girls tee, it is 50 cents more, making the shirts $6.50. Which I won't complain about, since it is still an amazing deal. They have a sale going on, where if you buy 10 shirts, you get $10 off your purchase! My total [before the discount] was $83.75 [One of the shirts I bought was on sale for $5.75]. After the discount, it was $73.75. The shipping made the total be $91.53. Not bad for 13 shirts, in my opinion. The whole part where you put in your information (shipping address, name, email, etc.) was very simple, very easy to navigate. My mom actually put it on her credit card (I paid her back in cash, because, obviously, I don't own a credit card.). After we got finished putting in everything, the website said it would email my mom's email address to confirm the order. The email came 2 days after we ordered them (not bad, since once, my mom ordered clothes for my sister off American Eagle and it took like a week to send the confirmation email.) My mom, of course, confirmed the order, and we received my tee shirts 2 days later. I tried the shirts on, and they are SO comfy. COMFIEST SHIRTS EVER. They look like they could cost about $15 each, the quality is very nice. I was extremely, EXTREMELY pleased. All in all, I rate 6dollarshirts.com 4.5/5! :D

Journey to be bilingual

Journey to be bilingual

Hello, I am Katie and this is my first ever blog. In this blog I will be posting my journey to becoming bilingual. I am trying to learn Spanish over the course of two years. I plan on getting my basics mastered now (numbers, colors, months, etc.) before high school. Right now, it is July 27, 2012. I start eighth grade on August 9, 2012. In the course of my eighth grade year, I plan to keep a 4.0 GPA (straight A's.), have time for my tumbling & cheer leading, having a -small- social life (I'm shy and only have a handful of friends anyway), stay healthy, and eat right all while learning Spanish. It's a lot, I admit. But, honestly, straight A's shouldn't be too hard (My school was the second-to-last best school in the state. Basically, it sucks). Tumbling & cheer leading is only 3 days a week. Eating right will probably be the hardest, haha! I text Abby all the time, she won't be in my family though. (Family = my school splits each grade into 2 and calls the separate groups 'families'. Underwear family has Mr.4, Mrs.7, Mr.836, and Mrs.69. Potato family has Mrs.90210, Mr.389636, Mr.385638756, and Mr.386289765. But they have a chance of having the same reading, 8th period, art/gym/music/cooking class together. Example: Katie and Abby are in the 8th grade. Katie is in the 'Potato' family. Abby is in the 'Underwear' family. (It's basically too make us make new friends. Which sucks, because I'm not a people person. Except on the internet. I like my internet friends.)) I have an app on my iPhone that helps me learn some Spanish words, but we're not allowed to take phones to school, so I'll have to make notes on them, so I can take them to school and study them in my free time. And in ninth grade, I can take a Spanish class to help even more and hopefully I'll be speaking fluent Spanish before Sophmore year!
